Applications

Bitumen Grade 50/70 is suitable for:

• Road Construction Projects: Ideal for moderate climates.
• Asphalt Primer Production: Utilized in various primer formulations.
• Waterproofing Products: Integral in the manufacturing process.
• Hot Mix Asphalt: Used for bases and pavements.
• Bitumen Emulsion, Cutback Bitumen, and Modified Bitumen Grades: Serves as a base material for these products.

Hazard Identification

This bitumen is not classified as dangerous according to Directive 67/548/EEC or EC 1272/2008. However, the main hazards related to asphalt primarily concern its high temperature:

• Burn Risk: Hot materials can cause burns.
• Fume Inhalation: Fumes are generally not hazardous in open air but can pose risks in poorly ventilated areas.
• Dust Exposure: Cutting, drilling, or planning hardened asphalt can release respirable dust, which may contain crystalline silica, posing long-term health risks such as silicosis.

Fire Fighting Measures

• Suitable Extinguishing Media: Dry powder, foam.
• Unsuitable Extinguishing Media: Water and CO2 are not recommended.
• Special Exposure Hazards: Hydrocarbon fumes and other hazardous combustion products may be released.
• Protective Equipment: Firefighters should use appropriate protective gear, including respirators.

Handling and Storage

• Handling: Avoid skin contact and fume inhalation. Ensure adequate ventilation if vapor formation is a risk. Keep away from ignition sources. Do not smoke, eat, or drink during use.
• Storage: Typically used upon receipt; no special storage requirements. Refer to the product’s technical data sheet for specific details.

Cleaning

• Tools: Clean with kerosene and gasoline.
• Hands: Use a hand cleanser or kerosene followed by soap and water.
